Police have arrested three men in connection with the murder of hairstylist Bimal Gurung and fleeing with his valuables in Neb Sarai,South Delhi, over a week ago.

Nand Kishore,Dalip Sharma and Pradeep Kumar were picked up from RK Puram on Tuesday.

Gurung’s death was reported on September 6 when neighbours called police after noticing a foul smell emanating from the flat where he lived.

Police claimed that they found the body in an advanced stage of decomposition. “The man was naked. His hands and legs were tied. The entire house was ransacked,” a police officer said.

Police said they suspected that someone known to Gurung must be involved in the crime because it was not a case of house break-in.

“We minutely analysed the contact numbers and the calls received by Gurung on his cellphone. It was found that he received a number of calls from several PCOs,but the last call was from a mobile phone that belonged to a man who worked in a sweet shop,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma said.

When police questioned the sweet shop employee,he reportedly revealed that three men met him in Ber Sarai on September 3 and borrowed his mobile phone for an urgent call.

“In the meantime, our team got hold of CCTV footage of the area. It was of the time when the three men took the phone from the shop employee. The footage showed the four men together. This helped us identify the three men and arrest them,” DCP Sharma said.

After their arrest,Kishore reportedly told police that the hairstylist was bisexual. “They met at a bus-stop in Safdarjung Enclave a few months ago. Subsequently,he used to pay Kishore for sex,” DCP Sharma claimed.

Kishore then started eying Gurung’s valuables, police said, adding he and two friends bought beer in Munirka and went to Gurung’s house on September 3.

“After the beer party, the three men strangled Gurung to death. They tied his hands and legs, and took away his belongings, including ATM cards,” the DCP said.
