A theft was reported from a bungalow inside the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex on Monday. Shiv Kumar, who is the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to President Pratibha Patil, told the police that Rs 30,000 in cash and a ring were stolen from his house. The Chanakyapuri police have registered a case.
According to the police, the incident reportedly occurred during a family function held at Kothi Number 2,the bungalow allotted to Kumar.
Guests had come with gifts for Kumar that evening. Initial investigations suggest that someone removed the cash from an envelope and the ring from a box, both of which were kept in a packet, said a senior police officer.
The police said Kumar came to know of the theft when he checked the gifts after the guests had gone. A shawl kept in the same packet was missing too but was later found in another room.
Senior police officers said though an insiders involvement was suspected, they were exploring all possible angles.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Shankar Dash said: We received a complaint and have registered a case. We are proceeding with care and caution.
Police sources said they were interrogating the helps employed at Kumars bungalow but nothing significant has come out till now.
