Former Delhi minister and AAP leader Somnath Bharti criticised Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Barkha Singh for her media conference held amid high drama on Monday afternoon.
In a series of tweets, the AAP MLA from Malviya Nagar raised concerns about Singh holding a press conference at her residence in order to make public his wife Lipika Mitra’s claims of alleged domestic abuse.
“My questions to Ms Barkha Singh, chairperson, DCW: Is DCW to break the family or unite the family? When DCW has listed the matter for June 26, why press conferences b4 that? Without hearing me, how can Barkhaji being the adjudicative authority become judgmental n declare me guilty? Is Barkhaji concerned at all with the future of our two little children?… In how many cases Barkhaji has called a press conference at her residence to help the complainant speak to media?” Bharti asked.

An hour later, however, Bharti grew mellow. “I am hitting another seacoast at Yanam, Puducherry. Wish Lipika was with me. She loves sea shores n we have been together to many shores,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mitra’s press conference at Singh’s residence witnessed melodramatic scenes. A tearful Lipika said she was mulling approaching court against Bharti.
Then Bharti’s mother and counsel turned up at the venue. While Singh asked the two to leave the venue, asking them to meet her at the DCW office, Manorama Rani Bharti said, “I was pained to know that my daughter-in-law is not staying with my son because of me…I am ready to move to an old-age home if my daughter-in-law can live happily with my son.”
Singh, on the other hand, said, “This is a private property. If she has to say anything, she can come to the commission and give her version.”
