Spins and the Sax

It is not very often that party-goers in the Capital dance to live music blended with tunes being spinned by a DJ at a nightclub.

It is not very often that party-goers in the Capital dance to live music blended with tunes being spinned by a DJ at a nightclub. This is exactly what Friday night,at Lap,Hotel Samrat, was all about. DJ Stuart Ojelay, saxophonist Aimee Jay and percussionist Chris Budd brought in a fresh musical experience through their gig that is part of Heineken Hed Kandi Hours. Standing next to the DJ was Jay,who played the saxophone — mostly associated with jazz and western classical music, and percussionist Chris Budd.

The classically-trained Jay said that she was always inspired by house music. While she started off as a classical player, she left it all when she discovered her love for jazz music and live performances. On his first visit to India,25-year-old percussionist Budd from Birmingham said,“It is indeed quite exciting to play in a country which is so heavily influenced by rhythm.”

After Delhi and Mumbai gigs, the trio will now perform in Bengaluru and Pune.
