Simran Singh, a popular freelance radio jockey (RJ) and influencer from Jammu and Kashmir with nearly seven lakh followers on Instagram, allegedly died by suicide in her rented accommodation at Sector 47 in Gurgaon on Wednesday night.

Singh (25) was found hanging in her room, police said on Thursday, adding that no suicide note was found at the spot.

Sunil Kumar, SHO of Sadar police station, said the police were informed around 9.30 pm on Wednesday by Simran’s friend staying with her in the same house. “A police team reached the spot and found Simran’s room locked from inside. The team broke open the door of the room and found her hanging,” the SHO added.

Her family members, who reached Gurgaon after being informed about the incident, said she was upset for some time, Kumar said.

“She was taken to a private hospital and was declared dead on arrival. Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. Postmortem examination was conducted this morning…,” another officer said.

“No FIR has been registered and the family hasn’t claimed any foul play. No suicide note has been found,” the officer said, adding that the body had been handed over to the family.

The Instagram profile of Simran, who had 6,96,000 followers and was known as ‘Jammu Ki Dhadkan’, shows she last posted a reel on December 13. “Just a girl with endless giggles and her gown, taking over the beach,” she had written while posting a reel where she was twirling on the beach wearing a peach gown.
