The Kashmere Gate Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) will be operational from Wednesday, after it was closed last week when its premises became submerged in flooding due to the rise in the water level of the Yamuna.
As the water level of the Yamuna started receding, the State Transport Authority (STA) has removed the restrictions and opened the ISBT for operations from Wednesday.
Following the flooding, the Kashmere Gate ISBT was closed to prevent any mishaps. The interstate buses from Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand that terminate at ISBT Kashmere Gate were stopped at the Singhu border.
“We have drained the water and mud from the ISBT platform where people used to wait for the bus. Due to heavy flooding, the water also entered offices, and areas where buses start and pick up passengers. All stagnant water has been pumped out,” said an official at Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DTIDC), which oversees all ISBTs in Delhi.
Officials said the department will take another day to restore the electricity.
“An electricity substation was submerged in the flooding, affecting the supply for the entire building, including the offices. We have partially restored electricity, but the supply will be entirely reinstated soon,” said the official.
Meanwhile, the restrictions which were imposed on heavy goods-carrying vehicles have also been lifted.
