Almost 700 Delhi government employees — of the Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services Cadre (DASS) and Steno Cadre — ended their protest after the Cabinet approved their demand seeking pay parity, as per the Sixth Pay Commission.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met representatives of the protesters and communicated the decision. “We were given the assurance that the necessary administrative orders have been given regarding implementation of pay parity and cadre restructuring. The remaining demands will be taken up later,” Deepak Bhardwaj, general secretary of the Government of NCT Employees Association, said.
Apart from the 700 employees on strike, three were also on an indefinite hunger strike. Bhardwaj said Kejriwal requested the association to call off the agitation and end the fast at the earliest.
The DASS and Steno cadre employees are considered to be the backbone of the government machinery.
Their demands included parity in pay structure with that of CSS cadre employees of the Centre; filling up of all vacant posts through promotion; restructuring of the DASS and Steno cadre; five per cent reservation for their wards in all educational institutions run or aided by the Delhi government; and a house in Delhi for every cadre employee who has worked for 15 years.
