The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for central Delhi ahead of the nationwide Samvidhan Divas Padyatra (Constitution Day Walkathon) to be held Monday.
The event, organised by the Department of Youth Affairs, marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will flag off the walkathon at 8 am from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium near India Gate.
In addition to dignitaries, around 10,000 youths are expected to take part in the over an hour-and-a-half-long walkathon, resulting in significant traffic disruptions in the area, police said.
To ensure smooth traffic management and public safety, no vehicles will be permitted to park or halt on C-Hexagon and surrounding areas. Any vehicles found parked in these restricted zones will be towed away and fined for improper parking. The impounded vehicles will be parked at the Traffic Pit near Bhairon Mandir in Bhairon Marg, the police informed.
Traffic authorities have advised commuters to avoid Tilak Marg, Ashoka Road, Shahjahan Road, C-Hexagon (India Gate), Zakir Hussain Marg, Akbar Road up to Gol Methi roundabout, Janpath and surrounding areas, including MLNP.
Furthermore, traffic will be diverted at Tilak Marg-Bhagwan Dass Road Crossing, Purana Quila Road-Mathura Road Crossing, Shershah Road-Mathura Road Crossing, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg-Subramanian Bharti Marg Crossing, Pandara Road-Subramanian Bharti Marg Crossing, K.G. Marg-Firozshah Road Crossing, Q-Point, along with Mansingh Road, Jaswant Singh Road and Mandi House Roundabouts. Additionally, commuters are advised to avoid the Pragati Maidan tunnels leading to India Gate.
The traffic police has urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and make use of public transport wherever possible.
