The Delhi Cantonment Board has served a notice to the residents of Mehram Nagar, asking them to vacate the premises within 10 days. The notice comes at a time when hectic discussions are going on in the Delhi government and even at the cabinet secretariat level to find alternative plots for Mehram Nagar residents.

For several years, security officials have been raising a hue and cry over illegal encroachment at Mehram Nagar. Recently,a meeting was held by the Home Ministry, and the Delhi government was directed to find alternative plots for the residents of Mehram Nagar.

“We are looking for an alternative plot, where these people can be accommodated. We are looking for plot in Southwest Delhi,so it will not be too far for them,” said Secretary Urban Development R K Srivastava.

According to land records, the area that falls under Mehram Nagar is NSG land. They had leased out 60 houses, each measuring 23 sq metres, after shifting the villagers from nearby parts the airport. However, the latest survey has said that at least 500 families are residing here. The original plot size of 23 sq metres has been expanded to anywhere between 100 sq metres to 150 sq metres.
