Relative calm on Day 3: Police quell ‘minor episodes’, say Gurgaon is safe

Three minor incidents of arson and vandalism in Sohna, Pataudi and Basai were reported Wednesday, said police, adding that they handled it quickly before it could escalate. These incidents took place at stalls running out of tin sheds, according to the Gurgaon police PRO.
On Tuesday, a man named Dinesh Bharti was arrested by the police from Sector 52 after police were informed he was seen speaking in a video and allegedly making communal comments.

DGP Haryana P K Agarwal said around 20 companies were deployed from the Centre, of which three were sent to Palwal, one to Faridabad, two were sent to Gurgaon, and 14 were sent to Nuh. Haryana police’s 28 companies, comprising IRB, state police and HAP battalion were sent to various districts, police said. SITs have been formed and each will be given 7-8 cases to expedite the probe, he added.
DGP Agarwal said, “It is said that a video was posted which was later deleted after which the situation worsened in Nuh. It is being probed by an SIT… FIRs have been filed related to incidents in Badshahpur and arrests will be made… Conspiracy behind the violence during yatra, if any, will be probed and action will be taken…”
He added that Gurgaon is “safe” and there have been incidents of “violence targeting people,” but action will be taken.
Home Minister Anil Vij said a three-member committee was formed to monitor and scan social media regarding Nuh violence. He said that this committee will scan every social media platform from July 21-31 and even after that.

Police said in connection with the torching of Anjuman Masjid at Sector 57 and death of its naib imam, four people were arrested, identified as Ankit (25), Rahul (25), Rakesh (23) and Ravindra (32). All are residents of Tigra village in Sector 57, said police. During the inquiry, it was found that Rahul was a gym trainer and all other accused are unemployed, said police. Following the violence in Mewat, they allegedly gathered a crowd from the village and nearby villages and carried out the offence, police said.
Police said that since Monday there were four people with bullet injuries, and seven with other injuries. Five cars, three autos and one motorcycle were torched and two cars and an auto were vandalised. Five shops and a mosque were burnt and four shops were vandalised, according to police.
Police force has been deployed at identified locations. Police are conducting flag marches and meetings were held with dignitaries and peace committees, police said.
Police urged public not to put up videos and posts with indecent language, photos, records, rumours or any wrong comments through social media or any medium, which may disturb religious harmony and sentiments of a particular caste, religion or community.

Home Secretary of Haryana TVSN Prasad has ordered that the suspension of internet will continue in Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal, and parts of Gurgaon. Mobile internet services all SMS services (only bulk SMS and excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks – except voice calls – in Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal and territorial jurisdiction of sub division Sohna, Pataudi and Manesar of Gurgaon will remain suspended, he said.
A team of six IPS officers has been posted in Nuh district. Police said STF and CIF are also probing the matter. Curfew relaxation was given for two hours Wednesday. Curfew relaxation outline will be prepared for Thursday as well, DC Parshant Panwar said.
SP Varun Singla said the accused are being identified and that the strictest action will be taken against the guilty. So far in Nuh, 41 FIRs have been registered in different police stations, 116 people arrested and 90 people have been detained. About 60 people were injured and six deaths were confirmed during the violence in the yatra, said police.
In Faridabad, 4,000 policemen were deployed. Two companies of Sashastra Seema Bal have reached Faridabad and five companies have been called from outside. Duty Magistrate has also been appointed to maintain law and order, said police PRO Sube Singh.
