In the last two days, the Delhi Police has registered three FIRs to probe the “deeper conspiracy” angle and alleged irregularities prevailing at the Al Falah University in Faridabad.
These FIRs have been registered by the Special Cell and the Crime Branch. While as part of one FIR, the Special Cell will probe the “deeper conspiracy” behind the blast, its planning and execution, the Crime Branch will investigate two FIRs related to the Al Falah University allegedly flouting norms.
Earlier, a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosives Act, and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, attempt to murder, and conspiracy was registered at Kotwali police station. It was later transferred to the NIA.
“Besides investigating the deeper conspiracy angle, we will also assist the NIA in the probe related to the blast,” a senior Delhi Police officer said.
According to sources, the main purpose of registering a separate FIR was to give the Special Cell the power to summon people for questioning. “The registration of the FIR will give the Special Cell the authority to summon people for questioning with regard to the suspected conspiracy… The police are examining whether a conspiracy is being hatched regarding any additional blast or terror activity in the Capital,” a source said.
The senior officer said that earlier, in cases related to the Delhi riots and issues involving illegal migrants, the Special Cell had registered separate FIRs and conducted probes.
Meanwhile, in regard to irregularities at the Al Falah University, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has already issued it a showcause notice, stating that while its accreditation has expired, why legal action should not be initiated against it.
The Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology’s ‘Grade A’ accreditation was valid from 2013 to 2018, while the Al-Falah School of Education and Training’s accreditation was valid from 2011 to 2016.
The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has also revoked Al Falah University’s membership. The university will no longer be able to use the name or logo of AIU and the logo must be removed from the university’s official website, the AIU has said.
Saturday also saw a Crime Branch team visiting the university’s headquarters located at Okhla in Delhi.
