The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly harbouring and providing logistical support to Dr Umar Nabi, the doctor who drove the car that exploded outside the Red Fort Metro station in Delhi on November 10.

The central agency identified the arrested man as Soyab, a resident of Dhauj in Faridabad. He allegedly harboured Umar immediately before the bomb blast in Delhi in which at least 12 people were killed and several others were injured.

“Probe conducted by the NIA has revealed that he had also provided logistical support to Umar before the November 10 car bombing that killed several persons and injured many others outside the Red Fort,” a spokesperson for the NIA said.

The NIA had earlier arrested six other key aides of Umar. “The agency continues to pursue various leads in connection with the suicide bombing, and has been conducting searches across states in coordination with the respective police forces in a bid to identify and track others involved in the gruesome attack,” the spokesperson said.

Last Thursday, the central agency said it arrested four close associates of Umar, who allegedly drove the i20 car that blew up near the Red Fort. The arrested men were identified as Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag, Dr Shaheen Saeed of Lucknow, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian. “They had all played a key role in the terror attack that killed several innocent persons and left many others injured, as per NIA investigations,” a spokesperson for the agency had said.

Earlier, the NIA had arrested Kasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district and Amir Rashid Ali, a Kashmir-based aide of Umar, in connection with the case.

The NIA, which was handed over the investigation into the blast by the Union Home Ministry soon after the attack, is working closely with various state police forces to track and arrest every member of the terrorist module involved in the attack.
