Noida: Toddler shot in head during celebratory gunfire at wedding procession, dies

On Sunday night, Vikas Sharma (40) was standing on the balcony of his rented flat, on the fourth floor of a residential building in Noida’s Sector 49, with his two-year-old son when a wedding procession was crossing the street. “It was around 8.30 pm. We stood for a while, looking at the celebrations on the street, when I realised that a bullet had hit my son’s head… his face was covered in blood,” he recalled.

“I couldn’t understand what happened. I rushed him to a hospital,” Sharma said, adding that his son, Ansh, succumbed to injuries within 30 minutes after the bullet hit him during the celebratory gunfire at the procession.

A case has been filed by Noida Police. Two accused, Happy and Deepanshu, residents of Gurgaon’s Nathupur village, have been named in the FIR. They have been booked under sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 30 (act done in good faith) of BNS, said police.

“The wedding procession… started from one Balveer Singh’s house in Gurgaon. During the celebratory gunfire, the child was shot,” DCP (Noida) Ram Badan Singh said, adding that the child died during treatment.

“We registered an FIR. Happy, who is a resident of Gurgaon, was allegedly holding the gun. We have deployed three teams to nab both the accused,” he added.
