A local court has granted interim bail to the three out of four students of Amity University who were arrested by the Noida Police Monday for allegedly supplying drugs to colleges and hostels across Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
The court said Tuesday that the students should be granted bail as they had to appear for university exams and that only a small quantity of drugs have been recovered from the accused.
The police, however, said that they will challenge the bail order.
Law student Aditya Kumar (21), and MBA students Apoorv Saxena (28) and Sagar Bajaj (21) were granted bail till December 1. After that they will have to appear before the court and provide sureties.
On Monday, the three students were arrested, along with another Amity student Darshan Jain, 21, and five other people from Mayur roundabout under Sector 126 police station.
According to the police, Darshan Jain and Aditya Kumar were found smoking weed in the open during a police patrol. On frisking them, the police recovered marijuana. They were taken to their room from where allegedly a high quantity of marijuana from Shillong and synthetic drug MDMA was recovered.
During interrogation, they disclosed more names and five people — Ghaziabad resident Akshay Kumar (32); Rajan Singh (20) from Delhi; Satendra Srivastava (21) and Anit Som (22), residents of Gautam Buddh Nagar; and Narendra Kumar (28) from Rajasthan — were taken into custody.
Overall, the police recovered 15.1 kg of marijuana, 30 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of MDMA, 150 grams of hash, 65 grams of original Californian weed, an SUV and mobile phones. They said the total value of the drugs is worth over Rs 30 lakh.
Police said that Akshay is the gang’s kingpin who used to get original Californian weed delivered to India from Taiwan, where his wife worked, while Narendra sourced marijuana from Rajasthan.
Police said Aditya and Satendra were tasked with taking orders while Sagar, Anit and Apoorv doubled up as bike taxi drivers to deliver the contraband in small packets.
