Neha Yadav’s in-laws arrested for murder: Cops

She succumbed to her burns in Safdarjang Hospital on July 2.

In connection with the dowry death case of Neha Yadav, police have arrested three of the accused on charges of murder on Monday. A Delhi court had issued a non-bailable warrant against the accused earlier this month.

“We have arrested Neha’s mother-in-law Sunita Devi, brother-in-law Rajbir Yadav and sister-in-law Reena Yadav. Abhey Singh, her second brother-in-law and another accused, however, are yet to be arrested,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Suman Goel said.

Neha was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws on January 13 in Southwest district’s Sagarpur area. AAP leader and the then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had taken up her cause.

She succumbed to her burns in Safdarjang Hospital on July 2.

Police then converted the offence of “attempt to murder” (307 IPC) to “murder” (302 IPC), which the accused were charged with.

Earlier, on October 1, a Delhi court had allowed the application of the state for re-arrest and judicial custody of the accused, Abhey Yadav, Reena Yadav and Sunita Devi.

Metropolitan Magistrate Dheeraj Mittal had also issued a non-bailable warrant against the accused, as they failed to comply with the court directions to appear before it.
