With the number of crime against women growing in Gurgaon,police have deployed 50 women police officers on Mehrauli-Gurgaon (MG) Road to provide greater assistance to women and keep a check on crime in public places.
Nazneen Bhasin,newly appointed DCP (East),said,The objective of this initiative is deterrence,especially common crime against women such as eve-teasing and molestation. MG Road is a matter of concern because of the number of pubs and bars in the area. It is more important to ensure womens safety at all times in this area. Our woman police squad will be deployed across Gurgaon on a need basis. A team of 50 officers has been called in from Madhuban,Karnal,and its sole aim will be to ensure safety and security of women and to provide assistance to women at night.
According to police,the women officers will be stationed near Metro stations,malls,banks and shopping complexes. This is in addition to the 24X7 helpline,1091,and the anti-obscene calls cell set up specifically for women.
According to police records,more than 30 cases of rape have been reported from Gurgaon in the past six months a sharp increase from 50 cases reported in 2011-2012.
