On her way home from a private library, a 17-year-old girl was shot at by a man who had allegedly been harassing her after she stopped speaking to him. The incident took place on Monday evening in Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony in Faridabad.
Officials from the Ballabgarh City police station said multiple teams, including those from the Crime Branch, have been formed to trace and nab the 19-year-old accused. Police have booked him for attempt to murder and offences under the Arms Act.
Police said the bullet grazed the girl’s shoulder and she sustained injuries to her left forearm and shoulder. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital and is currently stable.
According to police officers, the man had known the girl for about a year as he also visited the same library. But she had stopped speaking to him for two weeks. So, he decided to shoot her.
CCTV footage showed he tried to shoot her in the head from close range but missed.
“The incident occurred between 5 pm and 5.30 pm. The suspect, who was lying in wait outside the library, fired at her, threw away the country-made pistol at the spot and then fled on a motorcycle. The weapon was recovered from the crime scene,” officers added.
Based on the girl’s statement, an FIR was registered on Monday night.
“The girl has identified the youth, who is older than her and had been bothering her for some time after she stopped talking to him. We will nab him soon,” a police spokesperson told The Indian Express.
In October 2020, Nikita Tomar (20), was shot dead outside her college allegedly by her former classmate, Tauseef.
The woman’s father had alleged the accused had been pressuring his daughter to marry him a few days before the murder.
