A 23-year-old restaurant employee was killed while two of his colleagues were injured after being hit by a Mercedes car near Ambience Mall in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area in the early hours of Sunday, the Delhi Police said.
According to the police, the accident occurred at about 2.30 am, when the speeding Mercedes G63 lost control, hit a pole, and injured three people. The police apprehended man who drove the vehicle, Shivam, 29.
The police said a control room call regarding the accident was received at the Vasant Kunj North police station at around 2.33 am. The police immediately reached the spot opposite Ambience Mall, Nelson Mandela Marg, towards Vasant Vihar.
“Upon arrival, a Mercedes G63 was found in an accidental condition, and three injured people aged 23, 35, and 23 years—all employees of a restaurant in Ambience Mall—were found lying injured at the spot,” said Amit Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West.
The three were then rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre, where one of the injured, Rohit, 23, who hails from Chamoli in Uttarakhand, was declared dead on arrival. The other two are under treatment.
“The driver of the Mercedes car, identified as Shivam, a resident of Karol Bagh, New Delhi, has been apprehended. At the time of the accident, he was driving the vehicle along with his wife and elder brother. As per preliminary inquiry, the vehicle lost balance due to a diversion, resulting in the car hitting a pole where the three victims were standing at an auto stand,” DCP Goel said.
The police indicated that the Mercedes car is registered to Abhishek, a friend of Shivam, who lent him the vehicle for the night. A case has been registered, and an investigation is going on.
