A 45-year-old man from Rajasthan was crushed to death by a gravel-laden truck, and dragged for nearly 200 metres, at the Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway early on Friday morning, police said.
The victim, Mubin Khan, a real estate dealer from Tijara in Alwar district was en route to drop his friend, Puneet Kumar, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for a 9 am flight to Bengaluru when the incident occurred around 4.30 am.
According to police, Khan’s vehicle FASTag had insufficient balance for the Rs 95 automatic deduction at the toll. Booth staff directed him to pull over and pay the manual toll of Rs 118 via UPI. He parked a short distance ahead and stepped out to recharge his FASTag with Rs 100.
While walking back to his Hyundai Aura after the payment, Khan was run over by a Rajasthan-registered dumper truck that entered the lane. As the boom barrier lifted following the toll deduction from the truck’s FASTag, the driver accelerated, trapping Khan under the rear wheels. The truck fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood and body parts, police said.
Khan’s friend, waiting in the car, called his phone repeatedly without response and later identified the body at the spot after being informed by toll staff.
CCTV footage from the plaza captured the sequence, which was handed over to the police.
Police said an FIR was registered against the unidentified truck driver at the Kherki Daula police station under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, based on a complaint by Khan’s brother, Ramzan Khan. “We are scanning the footage and expect to arrest the driver soon,” a police spokesperson said.
Police advised Khan’s family against viewing the body post-autopsy due to it being severely mutilated. Khan is survived by his wife Sarjeena, daughter Muskaan (20) and two minor sons.
