L-G comes into the picture

It will now depend on the BJP to either stake claim to form the government or wait.

With the results of the Assembly elections announced on Sunday and all options being weighed on who will form the government and how,the Election Commission will have to declare all the winning candidates through a gazette notification,a process that will take another two days.

It will now depend on the BJP to either stake claim to form the government or wait for Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to invite its leader Harsh Vardhan to do so as the leader of the single largest party. If the BJP declines, the AAP could also be invited. But this too will be at the discretion of the L-G .

In either case, any party will have to prove its majority in the House within a specified period of time. And in case there is no way out of the impasse, there may be a spell of the L-G’s rule, which could last for a maximum of six months in one go. This could be extended up to one year.
