Delhi L-G VK Saxena held a review meeting with Delhi Police officers on Tuesday to discuss the capital’s law and order situation even as the Aam Aadmi Party continued to hit out at his office.
Sources said the Delhi Police Special Commissioners and DCPs met Saxena Tuesday. The officers discussed the recent crimes and preventive measures taken to curb such incidents in future, said a source. “We discussed a few crime incidents and figures… some new DCPs were also introduced to the L-G,” added the source.
Raj Niwas sources termed it a “routine meeting” adding that the Commissioner would meet the L-G as per schedule on Thursday.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, meanwhile, said that Delhi was in a state of “lawlessness”. “It appears that the central government lacks a concrete plan to improve law and order in Delhi. Merely convening meetings will not suffice… We witnessed the shocking incident of a car being stopped and a bag being looted in broad daylight at Pragati Maidan underpass… very close to the G-20 venue. This incident was captured on camera and exemplifies the lawlessness in Delhi,” he said.
Police, meanwhile, detained more than 1,500 people and checked their details. It seized about 270 unclaimed vehicles from Central Delhi during a night patrol. Intensified patrolling was witnessed between 10 pm and 2 am Monday night. All areas, particularly secluded places and dimly lit stretches, were covered, officials said. Checking was carried out near Red Fort, Pragati Maidan tunnel, main roads, dark spots and border areas of the capital. Extra pickets have also been installed, a police officer said.
