Hitting back at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kerjiwal’s remarks over the CBI raid on his office, Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday said Kejriwal should apologise to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for levelling baseless allegations against the prime minister’s office.

“CM Kejriwal must apologise to PM Modi for levelling baseless allegations against the prime minister,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Meanwhile, the CBI has emphatically denied that raids were carried out at the chief minister’ office and said that “false propaganda must not be used to impede investigation”.

The union minister said that the CBI carried out its searches only after obtaining a search warrant from the competent court. Prasad said that the agency was only looking into charges being faced by Kerjiwal’s secretary Rajendra Kumar and the raids on the chief minister’s office has nothing to do with Kejriwal.

Prasad questioned how can someone like Kejriwal, who rose from the ranks of an anti-corruption movement to become chief minister, fail in appointing an honest officer as secretary.

“Kejriwal has failed to perform due diligence while appointing Rajendra Kumar,” said Prasad.

The union minister, speaking at a press conference, implored that the CBI must be allowed to conduct its investigation in a free and fair manner.

The issue has caused ruckus in the parliament and led to repeated disruptions in the Rajya Sabha. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has clarified that the raids had nothing to do with Kejriwal’s office or his tenure as chief minister.
