An infant was killed after a car allegedly hit the motorcycle on which he was travelling with his family in Northwest Delhi’s Mukundpur Chowk on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The accused has been identified as Nivesh, son of a Delhi Fire Services Head Constable, officers added.
Police said that the deceased’s elder brother is in a critical condition and undergoing treatment.
According to police, a PCR call was received on Saturday regarding a road accident at Mukundpur Chowk.
Upon enquiry, police said, it was found that the complainant, Jagdish, a resident of Pakistani Camp, Adarsh Nagar, was travelling on his motorcycle with his wife and two children from Majnu Ka Tila towards Mukarba Chowk. When they reached Mukundpur Chowk, a car driven by Nivesh, a resident of Government Quarters, Fire Station Roop Nagar, collided with their motorcycle, officers said.
Due to the impact of the collision, the motorcycle lost balance and all four occupants fell onto the road, police said. The injured were taken to Burari Hospital by the accused, officers added. At the hospital, the infant, identified as Arun, was declared dead.
According to the police, the family was on their way to attend a relative’s wedding when the speeding car overtook them, leading to the accident.
Police said Jagdish, a refugee from Pakistan, earns a living by selling mobile phone covers and other electronic items in a cart. He had recently shifted to Faridabad, officers added.
Police said that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
