Ghaziabad MP and former Army chief General V K Singh on Wednesday met the family of Sandeep Goyal, an accountant for a ghee distributor who was gunned down by four men on Monday morning in front of an SBI branch in Bajariya. Goyal was was carrying Rs 18 lakh to deposit at the bank. The money was stolen by the assailants.
Confirming the visit, a spokesperson for General Singh said he offered his condolences and promised the family a month’s pension as a gesture of support.
Pradeep Goyal, the accountant’s brother, said the family demanded compensation and requested the MP to ensure that the tuition fee of Sandeep’s children is waived. “Sandeep was the only earning member in his family. We have requested General Singh that Sandeep’s wife, Mamta, be given a job so that she can raise her children, who are 10 and 12 years of age. We have also demanded a compensation from the government for the killing. He was murdered because of lack of law and order in the area. Finally, we demanded that the children’s tuition fee be waived,” Pradeep said.
Claiming that Sandeep had never before been asked to deposit more than Rs 2 lakh at a time, Pradeep suggested that police question his brother’s employer.
“Police should question his employer on why he suddenly decided to give Sandeep such a large amount to deposit,” Pradeep said.
Dharmendra Singh, SSP Ghaziabad, said the police was questioning every one who was related to the case but it was too early to come to any conclusion.
“No conclusions can be made at this stage. We are questioning everybody linked to the case. No arrests have been made so far but CCTV footage from cameras placed at various locations have provided assistance in tracking the bike and the assailants,” Singh said.
