Faridabad: Woman, fiance held for killing insurance agent over ‘blackmailing’ her to not get married

According to the police, on Saturday, Lakshmi lured Chander to Meethapur and took him on a motorcycle to a secluded spot near the Atmadpur bridge

A day after a body was discovered in a drain near Atmadpur bridge, the Faridabad Police’s Crime Branch DLF on Monday arrested a woman and her fiancé for the murder of an insurance agent, police said.

The case came to light on Sunday after a motorcycle was spotted near a cremation ground by the drain near the bridge, leading to the discovery of a body with head injuries and strangulation marks, officers said.

“The deceased was identified as Chander, a resident of East Vinod Nagar, Kalyanpuri, Delhi. A case was registered at the Palla police station based on a complaint by the victim’s brother, Madan Gopal, under relevant murder charges”, a police spokesperson said.

Police said that the arrested individuals have been identified as Lakshmi (29) from Southeast Delhi’s Meethapur, and Keshav (26) from Santosh Nagar in Burari. The duo were apprehended by the Crime Branch DLF, officers added.

“Initial questioning revealed that Chander, who had known Lakshmi for four to five years, was blackmailing her to prevent her marriage to Keshav. The duo allegedly devised a plan to eliminate him”, the spokesperson added.

According to the police, on Saturday, Lakshmi lured Chander to Meethapur and took him on a motorcycle to a secluded spot near the Atmadpur bridge. At the spot, Keshav, along with two accomplices, allegedly strangled Chander with a rope and struck his head, killing him. The body was then allegedly dumped in the drain to destroy evidence, officers said.

The two accused will be produced in court on Tuesday for further legal proceedings, police said.

In a similar case, a 35-year-old woman was arrested in August in Gurgaon for killing her husband. Her arrest came a week after she had reported to the police that her husband had gone missing.

She had allegedly plotted the murder with a neighbour — who she had an affair with — after her daughter saw an objectionable video of them and told her father. Another man, the neighbour’s uncle who helped them bury the body in a pit, had also been arrested.

The woman’s neighbour was arrested on August 1 after she accused him of raping her in March and threatened to make an objectionable video viral. She said that she suspected that he was behind her husband’s disappearance. This was after she had filed the missing person’s complaint on July 28, and claimed that she had last seen her husband two days before that.

As the investigation had deepened, police found that the woman had been in a relationship with the neighbour for over a year. The body of the 37-year-old victim in that case had been found after the accused admitted killing the man during questioning by police following his arrest in the rape case.
