In a swift operation, the Faridabad Crime Branch solved a robbery case involving over Rs 25 lakh within a day by arresting three men and recovering Rs 21 lakh in cash, police said on Wednesday.
Two motorcycles used to carry out the theft were also recovered, officers added. The arrests were made by the Crime Branch team of Uncha Gaon on November 25, under the directions of Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, ACP (Crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya said the matter came to light after Rohit Kansal, a resident of MVN Athens Society in Ballabhgarh and a chartered accountant, filed a complaint.
In his complaint, Kansal stated that the theft occurred when he was returning home on his scooter from Palwal–Sohna Road on November 24 around 6 pm, carrying a bag containing Rs 25.33 lakh in cash.
‘When he reached near the community centre at Sihi Gate, three masked men on a motorcycle blocked his path, pushed him off the scooter and brandished a sharp weapon. The men then assaulted him and fled with the bag. A case of robbery was immediately registered at City Ballabhgarh police station,’ the ACP said.
ACP Dahiya added that technical investigation and local inputs led to the arrest of three accused: Naveen, son of Kishan Chand; Abhishek alias Abhi, son of Lakhmi Chand; and Abhishek, son of Rajbir. All of them are residents of Nariala village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chhainsa police station.
“Preliminary questioning revealed that Naveen — the mastermind behind the theft— knew the complainant personally and was aware that Kansal regularly carried large amounts of company cash. The accused had prior knowledge that Kansal would be travelling with a substantial amount on November 24. He then roped in four accomplices from his village and planned the robbery. While Naveen and another associate conducted a recce on a separate motorcycle, Abhi, Abhishek and one more associate executed the theft near Sihi Gate,” a police spokesperson said.
Police have recovered Rs 21 lakh of the looted amount and both motorcycles used in the crime. Naveen has been remanded in police custody for two days for further questioning, while the other two arrested accused will be produced in court for judicial custody, officers said. Further investigation is underway.
