The Faridabad police on Monday arrested two individuals in connection with the murder case of a man who had been missing since October 1.
The deceased is Prempal (45), a resident of Machhgar village.
“Acting within 24 hours of receiving a complaint, the Sadar Ballabgarh police team recovered the victim’s body and apprehended the accused,” a police spokesperson said.
On October 5, Sukhan Lal (60) reported to the police that his son had been missing since October 1.
“My son, Prempal alias Paale, went missing around 10 pm. We searched for him but could not find him anywhere… He doesn’t have a mobile phone… He was wearing a blue t-shirt and blue jeans,” the complaint stated.
A case was initially registered for wrongful confinement in a place not known or discoverable to the public.
Early on Monday, the police arrested Harichand (21) and Hanish (20), both from Machhgar village. During questioning, police said they admitted that they had murdered Prempal and dumped his body in bushes in the IMT area of Faridabad.
The police added murder charges to the case and recovered the body.
“Initial investigations disclosed that on October 1, the accused and Prempal, who were friends from the same village, were drinking behind a petrol pump at IMT Faridabad. An argument broke out, which escalated. Harichand and Hanish kicked and punched Prempal, resulting in his death. They then disposed of the body in the bushes nearby and fled,” the police spokesperson said.
The accused were presented before a court on Monday and remanded to three days of police custody for further questioning.
Speaking with The Indian Express Tuesday, Ballabhgarh Sadar Police Station House Officer Inspector Umesh Kumar said that the accused were unemployed.
“Harichand had done a computer course earlier, and Hanish is a Class XII passout. The deceased was married with children.”
The deceased’s nephew, Saurabh Dhankar, said that Prempal worked as a driver, and had a 20-year old daughter and 12-year-old son.
“He and the accused had been friends for the last three months or so… they would eat together and meet frequently.”
