Drive to check helmets on women drivers begins today

The traffic police have deployed over 100 teams at institutional areas, marketplaces, office complexes and commercial centres to ensure compliance of law.

Beginning Wednesday, the Delhi Traffic Police will start penalising women driving two-wheelers or riding pillion without wearing helmets. The traffic police have deployed over 100 teams at institutional areas, marketplaces, office complexes and commercial centres to ensure compliance of law.

Joint Commissioner of police (Traffic) Anil Shukla said, “The special drive to ensure that women wear helmets will begin on Wednesday and 100 teams will be working to prosecute women (except Sikh women) who are found driving or riding pillion without helmets. We have deployed teams on all major intersections.”

The intersections that will be under police watch include Nehru Place, Rajendra Place, Connaught Place, Rajouri Garden, Vasant Vihar, Kamla Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Vikas Marg, Karol Bagh, Dwarka, Najafgarh Road, Mall Road and Aurobindo Marg.

“All women who drive two-wheelers or ride pillion are requested that in the interest of their safety and safety of other motorists on the roads, they follow traffic rules and regulations and wear standard helmets beginning from Wednesday,” Shukla said.
