‘Don’t believe cleaner was driving car that killed father’

Raja and Sultan Singh were out for a morning walk when they were run over by a Maruti Swift Dzire,which was being driven allegedly by the cleaner of the car. The car was registered with an official of Ministry of External Affairs,and police said the owner did not know that the cleaner had taken the car.

Raja’s last rites were conducted at his Bangalore home on Tuesday. Varma and her younger daughter were still in shock due to the sudden death,but her elder daughter was looking at the long road ahead to find the “right culprits” behind the death of her father.

“My father was in New Delhi to help his long time friend with the arrangements for his daughter’s wedding. They had known each other for 20 to 25 years,from the time they worked together for a finance company in Delhi,’’ said Chhavi Varma,a financial services executive. Her younger sister,Shagun,is a student of Class IX.

“I cannot believe the current story behind the accident. I don’t believe that the truth is being told. Every time such accidents happen,everything is covered up. We are just waiting for some more information. I want to pursue this further,” said Chhavi.

Her father was a Vice-President at Motor and General Finance Ltd,she said.

“We moved to Bangalore from Delhi after my father was transferred here around 15 years ago. Our friends tell us that such accidents are very common in Delhi,where things are covered up by the police,’’ she said.

Chhavi said Sultan Singh’s daughter told her about an eyewitness account,which stated that four to five young boys and girls ran out of the car after the accident.

“That’s why I think what is being said — that a cleaner and his friends caused it— is not true,’’ she said.
