A total of 66 new cases of dengue were reported last week, according to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), pushing the total number of positive cases this year (till September 20) to 685.
This year’s figure is lower than the number of cases recorded during the same period in the last two years. At 12, the highest number of cases was recorded in the Delhi Cantonment area this week, followed by Najafgarh at 6.
Meanwhile, in 103 additional cases, patients had incomplete or wrong addresses, while at 24 places patients were not found.
Also, 36 new malaria cases were recorded this week, taking the total to 333 from January till last Friday. This also marked the highest number of cases in the last five years during the same period. 2021 saw 51 cases, 2022 saw 61, 2023 saw 203, while 309 cases were reported in 2024.
Six cases of chikungunya were also reported during the last week, taking the total cases to 52 this year — also the highest in the last five years for the corresponding time.
Cases of vector-borne diseases have been witnessing a rising graph since the last five years.
On Monday, Delhi Deputy Mayor Jai Bhagwan Yadav inaugurated the spraying of insecticides using drones to prevent vector-borne diseases in waterlogged areas of Ward No.4 Alipur in Narela Zone.
Yadav also stated that a drone with a 10-litre tank can spray insecticide over a two-kilometre area in seven minutes, adding that the latest technology can spray insecticide in unauthorised colonies and waterlogged areas where municipal employees find it difficult to reach.
