The Delhi Police has busted a syndicate operating in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, involved in the circulation of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) while arresting 3 individuals, including the mastermind behind the operation. A total of Rs. 3,98,900 worth of fake currency notes of Rs. 100, along with printing equipment and other materials used in the operation have been confiscated, told the police on Monday.
On August 8, police got information regarding one of the key members of the racket coming to Paharganj area of Delhi for supplying a huge consignment of FICN.
Acting on the tip off, a raiding team consisting of Inspector Rohit Kumar, under the supervision of ACP Suresh Khunga, laid traps at various static points along the Type-VIII Quarters wall and the wall near roundabout in Gandhi Market.
At around 6:40 AM, two young boys on a brown colour Scooty came from the direction of Gandhi Market and parked 50 meters away from the Gandhi Market roundabout towards Zakir Hussain College, police said, further adding that the boy seated behind the scooter was holding a gray and sky-blue colored bag.
After the informer identified the men as Fazil and Mohsin, police nabbed them while recovering 40 bundles of Rs. 100 Indian currency notes from Mohsin’s bag. Police further found the notes to be counterfeit upon close examination and comparison with an original Rs. 100 note.
“During interrogation, both the 19 year old suspects revealed that they were engaged in the buying, selling, and supplying of counterfeit Indian currency notes,” said M. Harsha Vardhan, DCP, Central District.
They disclosed that they were at the location to supply these fake notes to one Azhar, and had supplied counterfeit notes on multiple occasions, the officer told, further adding that the culprits also revealed that they obtained the counterfeit notes from Jubair aka Sonu.
The police after conducting many raids in different places Delhi and UP, arrested the mastermind Mohd. Jubair aka Sonu, 26, from Kotwali Nagar in Faisalabad in UP’s Bulandshahar.
“He disclosed that he had learned the process of making FICN from someone named Aslam, who is currently in jail on similar charges,” police said.
According to the police, Jubair gave Rs. 30,000 to Aslam to procure machinery and raw material for FICN printing including a Printer.
“In his confessed he told that during initial days, he started printing with small quantities of counterfeit notes for personal use. Later, as he needed more money for his expenses, he expanded his operations and began supplying FICN to others,” authorities said.
The DCP informed, “An FIR under sections 179, 180, 61(2), 3(5) of BNS was registered at Kamla Market police station Delhi and all three accused were arrested. Further efforts are being made to track down other members of the syndicate.”
