Assuring a healthy life to every child, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday began a free vaccination programme that will bring children across the city under the cover of health benefits.

On the occasion of World Health Day, Kejriwal said 80 per cent of children in Delhi have been vaccinated, but, “If we look at jhuggi-jhopris and resettlement colonies, only 40 per cent have been covered so far”.

The government will sponsor a total of seven vaccines to combat 11 diseases under this programme, Kejriwal said. This would otherwise cost Rs 2,000, and that’s a reason why a “poor person cannot get this vaccination”, he said.

“If parents are poor and unable to afford health and education of their children, then it is our responsibility to take care of them,” he said.
The vaccination programme, ‘Mission Indradhanush Kavach’, will be held from the 7th to 14th of every month in 1,000 camps across Delhi, the chief minister said.

“In Delhi, there are 280 wards, and in each ward vaccination will take place in three places. So I request Health Minister Satyender Jain to set up more camps in all places, including resettlement colonies and unauthorised colonies for the larger benefit,” Kejriwal said.

The chief minister also warned against adulteration of food in the capital. “We will begin the campaign against adulteration of food. I am warning those who are involved in such things to stop this,” he said.
