Delhi: Fifth accused held 8 days after double murder in Harsh Vihar, one still absconding

Eight days after two men were gunned down in North-East Delhi’s Harsh Vihar area, the Crime Branch has arrested one more man in connection with the crime, police said on Sunday.

According to officers, Dev Pratap Singh alias Deva, a resident of Delhi’s Mandoli who had been absconding, was arrested from Bhopura in Uttar Pradesh while hiding in a car. Deva had been frequently changing locations to evade arrest, they added.

The car, used to facilitate his escape, and subsequent concealment of evidence after the crime had been seized, police officers also said.
According to the police, Sudhir Kumar (35) and his friend Radhey Prajapati (30) were killed in Pratap Nagar on the evening of September 5, after assailants opened fire at them in a residential lane.

“During questioning, Deva admitted that he, along with the co-accused, conspired to kill Radhey and Bunty over personal enmity. On the evening of September 5, the group, riding two motorcycles, opened fire on the victims in the parking area of Pratap Nagar before fleeing and going into hiding” said Pankaj Kumar Singh, DCP, Crime Branch.

The latest arrest comes days after four men—Chetanya Tomar, Pradeep Bhati, Pawan Bhati alias Dagga, and Pramod—were booked for their alleged involvement in the double murder. Another accused, Sumit, remains absconding, police said.

According to the police, a dispute on August 29 between the deceased and accused Pradeep and Pramod had triggered the attack.

The victims were rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital but later succumbed to their injuries during treatment, officers had said. A case was subsequently registered.
