A day after documents showing that Rs 45 crore was spent on rebuilding and renovating the official residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal came forth, the general secretary of the Delhi BJP’s Mahila Morcha submitted a complaint against the CM at the CBI headquarters, alleging cheating, forgery and fraud.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra in a press conference called Kejriwal “Maharaj” (king), slamming him for spending crores of rupees on building a “luxurious” house for himself when people were fighting for their lives during the pandemic.

He also pointed out that Kejriwal had, in the past, promised people that he would not stay in a house provided by the government and would not make use of a government vehicle.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, meanwhile, said the issue had been raised in the media because the BJP was trying to “run away from discussions on serious issues facing the country”. He demanded that the BJP address allegations made by former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik, regarding the attack on security forces in Pulwama.

“When five planes were being requested for the safety of our soldiers, why were they not given? When the Indian Prime Minister can buy a VVIP aircraft worth Rs 8,400 crore for himself, why were five planes not given to save the lives of our brave soldiers?” Singh said.

The AAP Tuesday said the official house allotted to Kejriwal on Flagstaff Road was in poor condition, and ceilings in three different places had fallen, after which an audit on the structural safety of the building was ordered. Officials confirmed that the Public Works Department (PWD) had recommended that the house be rebuilt. While the house initially had two storeys, the new building had three.

“The CM House was built 80 years ago in 1942… and was reconstructed for Rs 30 crore on PWD’s suggestion. In contrast, Rs 90 crores were spent on the renovation of the Prime Minister’s residence, and a new residence for the Prime Minister is being built at a cost of 500 crores,” Singh said.
