A nine-year-old boy suffered severe burns after two bike riders allegedly planted a lit-up cracker in his pocket in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Thursday.

According to the police, the bike-borne young men, presumed to be from the same locality, fled the spot immediately before the explosion that burnt the boy’s thighs and torso.

The police said that the incident took place around 8.30 pm as the boy was walking outside a cybercafé owned by his family in the Chilla gaon area of Mayur Vihar.

“The boy was immediately taken to Safdarjung Hospital as the injuries were severe. He is out of danger but still admitted,” a police officer said.

The police are analysing the CCTV footage to identify the motorcyclists and their vehicle, said a senior officer.
