Two brothers died after allegedly inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning the tank of a sewage treatment plant on Jogipur road in Nuh on Thursday evening. Police said the victims, Javed (35) and his younger brother Zahid (25) were not equipped with protective gear such as masks, safety belts and boots.
Police have booked the joint engineer of the plant for culpable homicide after the victims’ family alleged that he had pressured the victims to enter the tank despite repeated refusals and threatened to fire them.

Opposition parties in the national capital termed a "bundle of lies" the Delhi government's budget tabled in the Assembly on Saturday.
Adesh Gupta, the Delhi unit president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said there were only "tall promises" in the budget presented by the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation. "Arvind Kejriwal government's budget...is a bundle of lies. Kejriwal government had talked of giving 8 lakh jobs in 2015 then it promised 10 lakh jobs and now it is promising to give 20 lakh jobs but the fact is that so far it could give only 440 jobs and this was known through a reply by AAP government to an RTI (application)," Gupta claimed in a statement.
The Congress said the budget was "anti-poor, anti-Dalit and anti-youth". Delhi Congress president Chaudhary Anil Kumar said the Kejriwal government indulged in gimmick by naming it the “Rojgar Budget” to mock at the unemployed youth as Delhi has the highest unemployment rate in the country at 45.5 per cent. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degree Celsius, three notches above the season's average, on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The city's minimum temperature was recorded at 20.1 degrees Celsius, which was also three notches above the season's normal, it said.
The humidity oscillated between 56 per cent to 24 per cent. The city's 24-hour air quality was recorded in the 'poor' category (AQI 207) at 4 pm, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.
The department has predicted strong surface winds in the daytime for Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperature are likely to settle around 36 and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively, it said. (PTI)
The Delhi government has made provision for five road bridges, two underpasses, DND Flyway extension and a pedestrian subway in the budget for 2022-23, with the total allocation for the transport, roads and bridges sector running into Rs 9,539 crore.
Presenting the budget in the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday said the allocation is 13 per cent of the total budget of Rs 75,800 crore.
Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, proposed Rs 9,539 crore for the transport, roads and bridges sector which is Rs 145 crore more than the previous year's allocation. In 2021-22, the government had allocated Rs 9,394 crore for the sector. (PTI)
The Delhi government Saturday said it will create one lakh 'green' jobs in the next five years by starting 'Smart Urban Farming' campaign, adding 25,000 e-autos and installing rooftop solar plants of a cumulative 2,500-megawatt capacity.
Green jobs are jobs that have a direct, positive impact on the environment traditionally involving renewable energy, electric transport, energy efficiency or nature conservation.
'Providing clean air and water for future generations is an integral part of the Delhi government's vision of 2047. Keeping this in mind, in the next five years, the Delhi government is going to launch several initiatives, which will create more than one lakh green jobs,' Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said while presenting Delhi's budget for the financial year 2022-23. The Delhi government will provide financial support of Rs 4,374 crore to the local bodies, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said in his budget speech on Saturday.
The budget size for the next financial year is 9.86 per cent higher than that of the previous year's Rs 69,000 crore, he said in his address in the Assembly, adding that Delhi's economy is recovering gradually from the impact of COVID-19.
The Delhi government "will provide financial support of Rs 4,374 crore to the local bodies. This includes Rs 2,305 crore as tied fund for implementation of schemes/ programmes/ projects by local bodies and Rs 2,069 crore as Basic Tax Assignment (BTA)," he said. In addition to the above, an amount of Rs 1,780 crore has been provided for local bodies as share in stamps and registration fees and one-time parking fee. Delhi government is thus giving a "total financial support of Rs 6,154 crore to the local bodies in the Budget Estimate 2022-23," said Sisodia, who is also Delhi's Finance Minister. (PTI)
Hours after the Rs 78,500 crore Budget for 2022-23 was presented in the Delhi Assembly on Saturday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said it was a “miracle” that the amount allocated in the yearly exercise has increased by 2.5 times over the last seven years.
“In 2015, when we presented the first Budget, it was Rs 31,000 crore. Now it’s Rs 78,000 crore. There has been a 2.5-fold increase in seven years. This is no less than a miracle,” he said.
Thanking Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia – who also holds the finance portfolio – for the Budget, he added, “We aim to create 20 lakh new jobs in the next five years. Just saying it takes courage. This was not an electoral promise, this was the Budget. And we have presented the framework to create jobs. This is an innovative and bold Budget.” The government will focus on eight sectors for job creation – retail, food and beverages, logistics, supply, travel and tourism, entertainment, real estate and green energy. The Delhi government will conduct a survey to ascertain how many people got employment as a result of expenditure incurred on different programmes and schemes, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said while presenting Delhi's budget for the financial year 2022-23 on Saturday.
This will be the first such employment audit in the country along with the general outcome of the work done with the tax money of the public, he said.
"Every rupee of the budget passed by this House, whether that money is being spent in the field of education and health or is being used to build roads, buildings, bridges, schools, hospitals, colleges, electricity, water system, call centres, art culture etc... a complete account of how many people got employment as a result of every rupee spent will be kept," said Sisodia, who is also Delhi's Finance Minister. To promote Delhi as a global shooting destination, the AAP government will hold an international film festival every year under its film policy, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Saturday.
While presenting the budget for financial year 2022-23 in the Assembly, Sisodia said the Delhi International Film Festival will promote the city's rich culture and diversity. "With the introduction of the 'Delhi Film Policy,' the AAP government aims to promote the city as a national and international brand. The government will organise the Delhi International Film Festival every year from this year onwards.
"Through this film festival, the rich culture and diversity of Delhi will be showcased. Film fraternity from across the country will be invited to the festival," Sisodia said in his budget speech. (PTI)
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday attacked the BJP for "doing politics" over Kashmiri Pandits' exodus, asking how many of them the party had been able to relocate to the valley.
He also again suggested that the film, 'The Kashmir Files', should be uploaded on YouTube and proceeds so far earned from it should be spent on the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits. "Was a single Kashmiri Pandit family relocated to valley by BJP in last 8 yrs?” Kejriwal asked the BJP. “BJP is doing politics over the issue. We demand 'The Kashmir Files' film to be uploaded on YouTube. The money earned from it should be spent on welfare of Kashmiri Pandits," he said during the post budget press conference.
The suggestion was first made by him on Thursday, when during an assembly session he criticised the move of making the film tax-free, and suggested the filmmaker to just upload it on YouTube for all to see free of cost. (PTI)
Delhi Police have arrested a man for allegedly duping people of several lakhs on the pretext of providing an air ambulance service, while his girlfriend, a co-accused in the case, is on the run, officers said. They identified the accused as Navdeep and Prabhdeep Kaur.
According to the police, a complainant approached the Shahdara district cyber police station on February 5 stating that an air ambulance website had cheated him of Rs 4.24 lakh after he had booked their services from Guwahati to Hyderabad. The complainant Manu Arora alleged that after receiving the payment, the accused made excuses saying that the flight was cancelled and refused to refund the amount paid. He said the accused later stopped responding to his calls. Read More
The Delhi government has proposed to set up a boarding school for children from homeless families at a cost of Rs 10 crore in its 2022-2023 budget.
This will be the second residential school to be set up by the Delhi government—the first being its new Armed Forces Preparatory School, which is in the process of admitting its first batch of students.
“Children from homeless families who live on roadsides, footpaths, under flyovers and stairs or on open places of worship, pavilions, railway platforms etc. are deprived of basic facilities like shelter, food and education. The government has taken several measures to provide basic education to these children. However, these measures have been only partially successful. It is not possible to get quality education unless basic facilities like food and shelter are in place… the Delhi Government has decided to set up a boarding school with modern facilities,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in his budget speech. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday said the BJP has politicised the Kashmiri Pandits issue, adding that the ruling party has done nothing for the rehabilitation of the families since the exodus took place in 1990.
"In the last 20-25 years since Kashmiri pandits exodus happened, the BJP has been in the centre for the last 8 years. Has even one family been rehabilitated in Kashmir? No one. What BJP has done is politicise the issue. And, now after that, they want to earn crores by making a movie on their pain. Over 200 crores have been earned. It is criminal to make money with a picture on the pain of any community. This is not right."
Kejriwal added, "The country will not tolerate this. We only have two demands: put this movie on YouTube so everyone can watch it and second and whatever has been earned should be used for the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri pandits. And third, concrete steps should be taken so that kashmiri pandits can go back to their homes."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said his government's 'Rozgar Budget' will generate employment for the youth on a large scale. He said that the budget has taken care of every section of Delhi.
"Many congratulations to Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia for presenting the 'Rozgar Budget' for Delhi. This budget will create employment on a large scale for the youth. Every section of Delhi has been taken care of in this budget," Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi.

The Delhi government Saturday announced a budget of Rs 16278 for the Education sector during the presentation of the the annual budget 2022 Last year, the sector was allocated Rs 16377 crore.The government also proposed to develop 100 Montessori labs in the national capital. The goverment has sanctioned Rs 160 crore for healthcards for Delhi residents. He also said Rs 15 crore have been allocated for yoga teachers who will provide yoga training to the people of Delhi.
The Delhi government has also allocated Rs 800 crore for creating and providing jobs, an audit of which will also be undertaken for the first time, the Deputy Chief Minister informed. He added that Rs 475 crore has been allocated for construction and development of Mohalla Clinics, polyclinics and Mahila Mohalla Clinics.
Praising the government’s go green measures, Sisodia said that following the introduction of the EV policy in 2019-20, the number of electric vehicles in the national capital has gone up from 1.2 per cent to 10 per cent.
The Delhi government has allocated Rs 1900 crore to construct four new hospitals and redeveloping and upgrading existing hospitals in the city, Manish Sisodia said at the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Meanwhile, Rs 475 crore have been allocated for construction and development of Mohalla Clinics, poly clinics, mahila mohalla clinics, the Deputy CM added.
Speaking about development initiatives, the Deputy CM said: “The Delhi government will also organise retail and wholesale shopping festivals for 6 to 8 weeks. Under this policy, several popular markets in the city will be redeveloped. The government has allocated Rs 100 crore for this purpose. About five markets will be redeveloped in the first phase.”
The Deputy Chief Minister, during his Budget speech, also listed measures to boost and promote Delhi’s street food, like chole bhatoore, golgappa, tikki etc. For this, he added, the government will start a “Delhi Good Truck Policy” under which food-trucks will operate from 8 pm to 2 am. The move shall also help create employment, the Deputy CM said.
