With the arrest of five persons, Delhi Police said on Saturday that it has busted a fake job racket as part of which, the accused allegedly cheated more than 100 aspirants by promising placements in reputed companies and extorted over Rs 15 lakh from them.
The racket was being run under the guise of a placement agency named Skill Innovation Solution from Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi.
Police identified the accused as Shahdara resident Tariq Khan — the mastermind — and his associates Kapil, Tannu, Adiba, and Shahana. Police said the gang lured job seekers through online job portals, conducted fake interviews, and demanded money as “security” or “processing fees.” Once the payments were made, the victims neither received job offers nor any refunds.
The case came to light after a complaint was filed by Shalimar Garden resident Manisha, who alleged that she was contacted by one Amardeep on September 22, claiming that her profile had been shortlisted by a reputed company. He allegedly called her to the agency’s Kotla Mubarakpur office for an interview.
The complainant said she was convinced to pay Rs 24,000 in multiple online transactions, but her phone number was later blocked by the accused.
Police said the group had employed around 10 telecallers. “The telecallers would obtain data from job portals, call job seekers posing as HR executives of reputed firms, and invite them for interviews at the fake agency office,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan. “After collecting money through UPI or QR codes, the accused would shut down operations and shift to a new address,” he added.
Police said efforts are being made to trace other victims and examine financial trails connected to the racket. “A probe is on to identify more people involved in the racket,” the DCP said.
