Two days after a 17-year-old girl was shot at by a man who had allegedly been harassing her after she stopped speaking to him, the accused was arrested on Wednesday. The incident took place on Monday evening in Ballabgarh’s Shyam Colony in Faridabad.
Police identified the man as Jitender alias Jatin (30), a resident of Saramathla in Gurgaon district.
“Jatin, an accountant at Rawal Institute College in Jakhopur, Faridabad, had known the girl for about a year, as both visited the same library. She had stopped talking to him two weeks ago. He had been stalking her since 2024,” a police spokesperson said.
“On November 3, he followed her on a motorcycle, demanded to speak, and opened fire when she refused. He fled while leaving the country-made pistol at the spot,” the spokesperson added.
The girl was returning home from a library in the evening when Jatin, who had been waiting outside, fired at her from close range. CCTV footage showed he aimed at her head but the bullet grazed her left shoulder and forearm. She is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, police said.
On Monday night, an FIR was registered at City Ballabhgarh police station on the charge of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act.
Jatin will be produced before court Thursday, police said.
