Television news channel vehicles lined the lanes near Jai Prakash Narayan park
Anna Hazare was at Rajghat all of Monday afternoon, but a clutch of television vans and supporters of the social activist remained camped near Jai Prakash Narayan Park waiting for the Gandhian leaders next move.
Crew members of some of the channels stationed at Bahadurshah Zafar Marg said they were instructed to stay the whole night. They said they will keep a night-long vigil, monitoring events outside JP Park.
Nothing is happening as of now,but things could pick up any minute and we dont want to miss it. The reporters may come and go,but the vehicles will stay here till morning when the protest starts. We have to stay all night since we may not get place to park tomorrow, said a TV crew member.
Though the crew members expect most of the supporters to leave in the night, the action is likely to resume early in the morning.
The Delhi Police has denied Hazare and his team permission to proceed with the agitation, claiming that their conditions were not accepted by the protesters.
Hazare, however, said he will reach the venue at 8 in the morning on Tuesday.
Earlier, thousands of supporters had gathered at Rajghat, and there were reports that Hazare would address the media from there, rather than at his scheduled conference at the Constitution Club on Rafi Marg.
Outside Jai Prakash Narayan Park, supporters of Team Anna who have come from various parts of the city and the country, said they expected him to arrive as scheduled and would wait for him through the night.
Though the number of people gathered at the protest venue dwindled as the evening progressed,a group of supporters from Hyderabad, who represented the India Against Corruption movement, lit candles and sang bhajans as they continued the wait for Hazare.
Cops say no protest, but expect traffic snarls
With Anna Hazare emphasising that he would go ahead with his protest as planned, traffic snarls can be expected in a few of Central Delhi areas on Tuesday. Police have already imposed Section 144 of CrPC in the area and claimed that Anna Hazare and his supporters will be arrested if they enter the vicinity on Tuesday. Police added that no traffic advisory has been issued.
At present,we have not received any intimation about Anna Hazares protest. Their team had rejected the offer made by the Delhi Police and Anna does not have the permission to protest at JP Park. They have not agreed to our conditions, which automatically means they have rejected our offer. Thus, there will be no protest tomorrow and hence,no traffic advisory has been issued, said Satyendra Garg,Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
He said appropriate action will be taken depending on the situation on Tuesday.
