Court tells govt to decide on Noida Authority officials

The Allahabad High Court on Friday left it to the state government to reconsider the reappointment of Noida Authority Chairman Rakesh Bahadur and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Saran.

The Allahabad High Court on Friday left it to the state government to reconsider the reappointment of Noida Authority Chairman Rakesh Bahadur and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Saran. The two officials had been accused of wrongdoing during their previous terms between 2005 and 2007. They were facing criminal and departmental inquiries.

Hearing a PIL from the Madhav Samaj Nirman Samiti,a division bench of Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Ram Surat Ram Maurya said the government was free to reconsider the appointments. The Samajwadi Party government appointed the officials on May 4.

The PIL questioned the reappointment, saying the two officials had been accused of allotting land to the hotel industry at Rs 7,400 per square metre, whereas the actual market value was Rs 74,000 per square metre.

The court issued notices to the Noida Authority, the state government and the Centre, besides Bahadur and Saran individually. The next date of hearing has been fixed for July 31.
