Two months after a man was shot dead inside the GTB Hospital in a case of mistaken identity, the Delhi Police Crime Branch Wednesday arrested a “conspirator” who had allegedly hatched the murder plan, near Meerut.

The arrested man, Faheem alias Badshah (30), had hatched the plan at his Babarpur flat on the instructions of a gangster, said police. He had procured two illegal weapons and 19 rounds, which he allegedly gave the shooters to killing Waseem, a rival gangster.

On July 14, a case of murder was lodged after a person named Riyazuddin (35) was shot dead inside GTB Hospital. The other accused — involved in the logistics, recce and planning of the incident – was arrested earlier. “Faheem was arrested near the highway in Meerut in UP on Wednesday,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Kumar Sain.

Faheem had come to Delhi in 2019 and started working as a property dealer. “He had then came in contact with members of a notorious gang and got involved in petty offences. Last August, he was arrested in a robbery case in Sarai Rohilla and spent about 10 months in jail. After coming out in June 2024, a member of his gang asked him to plan the murder of Waseem with associates Anas, Faiz, Aman, Ferhan, Moin, Fozan, Saif and Shavej,” the DCP said.

“As per the conspiracy, Aman, Shavej, Saif Ali and Fozan rushed to GTB Hospital with arms but wrongly… fired at Riyazuddin, who was under treatment in the same ward as Wazeem,” said Sain.

Faheem and his associates absconded after this. “Faheem was staying at different places in Delhi, Bihar and Punjab,” said Sain.
