Clash over magazine stall in Civic Centre

A subscription drive for Sangh mouthpieces Organiser and Panchjanya in Civic Centre triggered a clash on Friday between Congress and BJP councillors.

A subscription drive for Sangh mouthpieces Organiser and Panchjanya in Civic Centre triggered a clash on Friday between Congress and BJP councillors.

Congress councillors alleged that the BJP-ruled North Municipal Corporation has started a campaign to “saffronise” the Civic Centre, the corporation’s building,by setting up a stall that offered annual subscription of the RSS-backed Panchjanya magazine and Organiser newspaper at Rs 250.

The clash started when the leaders of the Opposition in South and North municipal corporations,Farhad Suri and Mukesh Goel, went to the second floor of the building where BJP leaders had congregated to train new councillors of the party.

There they saw the stall and accosted North corporation’s Mayor,Meera Aggarwal. She said: “Panchjanya is a social magazine. There is nothing wrong in it.”

“This is a government building and Panchjanya is an RSS mouthpiece. How can they promote it here? We want the officials who permitted them inside the building to be punished,” said Suri.
