Capital put on high alert after Peshawar attack

Police will conduct mock drills in public places to measure the city’s preparedness.

The Delhi Police has sounded a high alert in the capital in the wake of the Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar. Police have stepped up security checks in hotels as well as increased vigil at schools across the capital.

A senior officer said, “A meeting was convened by Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) on Wednesday. Owners of malls, hotels and cafes and school officials attended the meeting. Police gave them specific instructions about security checks and identity verification for all persons entering their premises. We are not taking chances with any public places where there is a possibility of such an attack.”

Police will conduct mock drills in public places to measure the city’s preparedness. Those who attended the meeting were also advised to check dustbins and all corners of respective buildings regularly.

“All CCTV cameras are being checked and those found to be malfunctioning are being repaired. Also, all hotels and malls have been asked to submit floor maps to police with entry and exit points marked,” the officer said.
