Delhi police have arrested an MBA graduate working in a multinational company in Noida, and three of his associates all of whom were involved in several cases of motorcycle theft, police said. Police have also recovered nine high-end motorcycles from them.

The accused, identified as Sanatomba Singh,an MBA graduate from Coimbatore,Tamil Nadu, was arrested with Rabi Masrur,a bike stuntman,Mohammed Amir Hussain,a computer expert, and Asem Kanta Singh, who pursuing his Diploma in Computer Hardware & Networking in Delhi. All are natives of Manipur, police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma, said,“We received a specific input about the movements of a gang that they would come to Sewa Nagar,Kotla Mubarakpur,on stolen motorcycles to commit some crime. A team was constituted and sent to the spot.”

According to police, around 12.35 pm,two motorcycles — one without a number plate — was spotted in the area and were signalled to stop. When the accused tried to flee, they were chased and nabbed, police said.

“The men were asked to produce papers for the motorcycles. During verification of the engine and chassis number of the motorcycles from Zip Net,it was found that the number plate of the Royal Enfield motorcycle was fake. On further verification, the actual number of the Royal Enfield was found to be the number of a bike, which was stolen from R K Puram,” Sharma said.

According to police, the gang would conduct reconnaissance in different parts of Delhi at night and identify the vehicles to be stolen. “One of them was assigned to break the locks of the bikes. They would then ride the stolen bikes to a workshop and change the number plates. They would also create fake registration certificates with the altered registration numbers of Gurgaon,UP or Bahadurgarh,” Sharma said. “However, they would retain the original engine and chassis number to prevent the bike from being identified as stolen,” sharma said.

After the theft, police said, fake documentation of the vehicles would be completed. The vehicles would then be taken to Meerut, where they would be received by one Abu Hassan. Abu would then send these motorcycles by train to Manipur and pay the gang depending on the make of the bike stolen, police said.
