ASI killed in Chanakyapuri crash

Meena allegedly lost control over the vehicle while trying to avoid a motorcyclist. “There is a u-turn on Vinay Marg and while Meena was attempting to take it,a motorcycle overtook him and came in direct line of the SUV. To avoid a collision,he took a sharp turn to his right,climbed the pavement and crashed into the tree,” a senior police official said.

The police said the accident took place at 12.20 am near Ashoka Hotel. The impact was such that the front portion of the SUV was completely smashed. All five injured were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital,where Meena was declared dead on arrival. The constables,attached with the VIP security wing as well,are reportedly recuperating at the hospital.

The police said Meena was going from the Chanakyapuri side to Hotel Ashoka when the accident occurred. All five had received postings for the VIP route arrangements for the 45th death anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Meena’s body has been sent for a postmortem. Shanker Dass,DCP (New Delhi),said the postmortem report could only establish whether the ASI was drunk at the time of accident. A case has been registered at the Chanakyapuri police station and further investigations are on.

Meena hailed from Rajasthan’s Mundawar village in Dausa district.
