In a first of its kind, the Aam Aadmi Party has planned to build an Innovative Vocational University in Delhi in order to make all youths employable in the city.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that government will ensure that youths get job after completing their vocational education in this university. The AAP government also wants to make Delhi an education hub and change the system ‘revolutionarily’.

“In order to provide innovative skills and vocational programmes to our youths, I am planning to build Innovative Vocational University in Delhi,” Sisodia said while addressing CII Delhi State Annual Session here. The Minister, however, said that this project is now in an initial stage and consultation with experts from different fields is going on.

“We have the Delhi Engineering college, but we can not expand it further. For Arts subjects, we only have IP University, but the same situation also prevails with it. There is a need to set up such an Innovative University,” he said.

According to Sisodia, certificate, diploma and graduation courses will be conducted in this university which would ensure to make youths employable.

“There is no concept of further education here, but we have to change the system. A person who has left his education midway, can be able to take admission to this university and pursue a course. If he or she comes after sometime again, he will again be imparted vocational  education and given diploma or certificate,” he said.

Sisodia also said that government wants to make Delhi a knowledge hub. “We have to make efforts to achieve a target of 20 per cent growth rate and for that we have to do lot of work.”

“There is need to think out of the box. Youths, who are between 18 and 25 years, want to innovate. There is also need to give some space to them. The government aims to make job creators so that a chain of such persons can be built and then, more jobs will be created,” he said.
