The Gurgaon police Thursday arrested an 18-year-old for allegedly raping a minor girl at a hotel in the city. The owner of the hotel was also arrested for renting out the room without proper verification of the girl’s details, officers said.

The police identified the hotel owner as Ramphool alias Ram, a resident of Butana village in Sonepat district, and said the 18-year-old accused is a Class 12 pass out. The two were produced before a court on Friday, and remanded in police custody for two weeks.

Officers said the accused allegedly used a fake Aadhaar card to book the room, prompting them to warn of strict action against hotels flouting such verification norms.

The case stems from a complaint filed on October 28 by the survivor’s mother, who stated that her daughter was abducted on October 26. A spokesperson for the Gurgaon police said, “A First Information Report (FIR) was registered the next day under relevant sections, and the girl was found following an investigation.”

“The probe revealed that the prime accused befriended the minor through Instagram after meeting her at a mall about 15 days earlier. On October 26, he allegedly lured her to the hotel and booked a room using a fake Aadhaar card in her name, before raping her,” the spokesperson added.

The police said Ram rented the room without verifying the document via the M-Aadhaar app or obtaining signatures on the copy. The 18-year-old, meanwhile, admitted to the crime during questioning, they added. Upon confirmation of the assault on the minor, charges under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act were added to the FIR.

“The Gurgaon police have issued strict directives to all hotel and guesthouse owners: No minor shall be accommodated without verifying Aadhaar and related documents. Violators will face stringent legal action,” the officer said.

On Friday, days after a 15-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly abducted from a market, forced to consume intoxicants and gangraped in Faridabad, a 22-year-old truck driver was arrested in connection with the incident. The police said the girl and her father had travelled in the main accused’s truck about two months ago.

“That is how he obtained the girl’s contact number. He had shared his phone number and Instagram ID with the girl, and they communicated via phone and on social media,” a spokesperson for the Faridabad police had said, adding that the accused hailed from Mathura.
