10 police teams formed to crack Rani Bagh murder

Police said they were probing all angles and several persons, including the labourers at the construction site opposite Garg’s house, were being questioned.

Police on Thursday formed 10 teams to investigate the murder of scrap metal merchant Satpal Garg and his wife at their home in Northwest Delhi’s Rani Bagh area on Wednesday. Garg and his 46-year-old wife,Ramkali, were found murdered in their three-storey house in Sri Nagar Colony near Britannia Chowk. The couple’s two sons,Sanjeev and Naveen, were away at the time of the incident.

Police said they were probing all angles and several persons, including the labourers at the construction site opposite Garg’s house, were being questioned.

They said call records of the couple didn’t reveal any clue that could help the investigators.

The milkman, who called Sanjeev as nobody answered the doorbell, has been questioned too.

When Sanjeev reached home from their newly opened shop,he found the house completely dark. As he forced open the main door,he found his father lying unconscious on the sofa. Doctors said he was strangled to death, while Ramkali was attacked with a blunt object.

Ramkali’s gold ornaments were missing and preliminary investigation suggested that the couple were killed by robbers.

But police didn’t rule out an “insider job” since three-four cups of tea were found in the kitchen. “This suggests that some known person(s) visited the place and committed the crime,” an officer said.
