Man,parents booked for harassment
Bangalore: A woman lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws at J J Nagar Police Station Saturday alleging dowry harassment and threat to her life. Naziya alleged husband Imran R Sherief,a teacher and a small-time actor,threatened to kill her with a machete if she did not give him Rs 50 lakh.
The couple,who married eight years ago,have a seven-year-old son.
Naziya said Imrans parents Rehamatullah Sherief and Imtiaz Unnisa also harassed her for money. A case has been registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act but the police said they would take action only after a preliminary probe.
Ex-serviceman arrested for attacking cops
Bangalore: An ex-serviceman was arrested by the traffic police for driving under the influence of alcohol and attacking cops on duty Saturday night.
Shivakumar,a sub-inspector attached to the Frazer Town traffic police station,stopped Balakrishna,an ex-army man,at Nagawara Junction. The police said Balakrishna was not only driving on the wrong side of the road but also refused to take an alcometer test. When police constables tried to intervene,he attacked Shivakumar with his helmet and slapped others in an attempt to flee. However,Balakrishna was apprehended with the help of locals, a senior police officer said.
Shivakumar,who sustained minor injuries,received treatment at a private hospital. On the basis of his statement,the Hennur police registered a case of assault and obstructing a government servant from discharging his duties,whereas the Frazer Town traffic police booked Balakrishna for rash,negligent and drunken driving.
Man kills friend during drunken brawl
Bangalore: A man was allegedly killed by his friend after the two got into a drunken brawl near Peenya police station on Saturday night.
Locals found the body of 28-year-old Nagaraj of Siddhartha Layout in a grove at Nelagadaranahalli Sunday morning and informed the police. There was an Ashiwin Tailors label on his clothes and owner of the shop in Nelagadaranahalli told the police it was a uniform he stitched for a private manufacturing company.
The police took the manager of the manufacturing unit to the crime scene and he identified the victim.
His wife told the police Nagaraj had gone out with friend Shekarappa the previous evening. Shekarappa was detained and confessed to killing Nagaraj. He was later arrested for murder.
