Following the incidents, the government has placed Villupuram district SP N Shreenatha and Villupuram and Chengalpet DSPs (Prohibition Enforcement Wing) under suspension. Chengalpet SP Pradeep has been transferred.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who visited the victims on Tuesday, said that there has been a rise in the sale of spurious liquor in the last two years under the DMK government. Palaniswami alleged that the government encouraged people to consume alcohol and that activists and actors have not spoken out about this incident.
